Wedding at the Yacht Club, Fon Du Lac, WI. | Wisconsin Documentary Wedding Photographer
Johanna and Riley's special day stands out to me for a few reasons… As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, I've seen my fair share of beautiful moments, but this one was truly something else. The day wasn't just about snapping photos; it was about capturing the love, family, and shared memories in a way that felt real and authentic.
Johanna and Riley chose to tie the knot at the Fon Du Lac Yacht Club where their family and cousins spent their summers growing up. You could feel the history and warmth in every corner of the venue. Throughout the day, everyone was constantly reminiscing on the familiar scent of the lake, the memories shared on grandpas boat (which was still docked there) and how great it was to be back. The laughter of old friends and families reuniting set the tone for the day.
The day started off on Riley’s grandfathers boat where the groomsmen were getting ready. This was a nice boat, but a small boat where 10 people where chilling. While some were getting ready, some were still sipping screw-drivers, barefoot, shirts off and all.
I hesitated for a moment – was I supposed to start taking “getting ready” photos now? But why would I wait when these are the photos of memories they will want later? So, why not?
Considering some people were half dressed, I asked permission, and was given an enthusiastic "go for it". Let me tell you, the time spent on this boat which was overflowing with shirtless men, made for some of the most genuine, candid and relaxed photos of the day. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Throughout the day, Johanna and Riley's family, especially their grandpa, played a big role. His smile and loving energy were infectious, reminding us all of the importance of family bonds and the joy of shared memories. It was clear that this day wasn't just about the couple; it was about celebrating with the people who mattered most. This theme remained when I went to take photos of Johanna getting ready with her bridal party and her mother. Not only was her final button-up with mom enough to make me tear up, but the first look with dad had me taking in the moment while it lasted.
As the day unfolded, I focused on capturing the little moments – the cheers, the tight hugs, the bursts of laughter, the kisses. It was these candid shots that truly captured the love and authenticity of Johanna and Riley's relationship. No staged poses or forced smiles – just real, heartfelt moments that told their story.
Johanna and Riley's wedding was more than just a celebration; it was a heartfelt gathering of loved ones, filled with laughter, love, and shared memories. As a Wisconsin wedding photographer, it was an honor to capture the beauty of their day in a way that felt genuine and authentic. Here's to love, family, and unforgettable moments that last a lifetime.
